Don’t miss the last ferry

Arriving at Hagnaya too late is one of the most often reported mistakes. Published last departures differ (sources say about 4:30 or 5:30 PM, a later trip listed by one timetable runs the other way, from Santa Fe to Hagnaya), so confirm with the operator before you travel. Leave the airport by about 10 AM. According to suroy.ph (Nov 2026), a bus leaving Cebu after about 1 PM usually arrives too late for the last ferry. Then you may need a night near Hagnaya – or check whether a late trip from Kawit port (Medellin) runs that day.
Good to know
- Bus terminal: since 30 Oct 2025 some buses have left from the satellite Cebu Bus Depot (near S&R); check where yours leaves, as this may change. Check that the sign says “Hagnaya Port” – a bus marked just “Bogo” may not go to the port.
- Luggage: bus aisles and tricycles are tight, so soft bags travel better than big hard cases. Take a photo of bags that go under the bus.
- Cash: you pay bus, ferry, fees and tricycles in cash. See Money & ATMs.
- High tide: after damage from the September 2025 earthquake, Hagnaya port has paused loading at high tide since March 2026. See Weather & tides.
- Delays: delays of one to two hours have been reported (SunStar, Oct 2026).
Other ways to the island
- Kawit port (Medellin) → Santa Fe with Aznar Shipping. Fares and times differ between sources and changed several times in 2026 – check before you go.
- Cadiz (Negros) → Bantayan Island with Balt-Bep Shipping Express (sources differ on the arrival port; a temporary alternating-day schedule was announced in May 2026). Confirm port, days and fare with the operator.
- Flights to Bantayan airport (Santa Fe): there are no scheduled flights confirmed as of November 2026 – see flights to Bantayan.
- Maya port is for Malapascua, not for Bantayan.
Going back to Cebu
The same way in reverse. Plan 5–8 hours door to door. Take an early ferry if you have a flight – delays are common. See the ferry schedule for trips back to Hagnaya.
