Who
In short: AI-written, checked by a second AI, on-site checks by our local guide.
bantayan.org is a free community project. It is run by Ralf, a local guide living in Santa Fe (a Google Maps Local Guide), together with SolvraONE, a small company that builds AI automation. The AI writes the pages, so bantayan.org is listed as the author; Ralf is named separately as the on-site checker. We sell nothing on this site and take no money from local businesses.
How
| Task | AI | Local guide |
|---|---|---|
| Ferry times, fares, fees | looks for changes and updates them; a second AI checks | checks on site when he can |
| News and notices | writes short posts with a source; a second AI checks | checks on site when he can |
| Directory of places (stays, food, beaches) | lists places from OpenStreetMap as “unverified”, without phone numbers, prices or booking links; our own tips on guide pages like Eat & drink only name places the local guide has visited | checks places one by one, then marks them “Verified” |
| Weather, tides | – (calculated by code from Open-Meteo) | – |
| Typos, broken links | fixes them | sees a log |
A page can go online after the AI fact-check, before the local guide has checked it. Only a date labelled “Checked on site by local guide” means the local guide has been there; the AI fact-check date is a separate check.
How we check
Every page shows a check line – at the top of news, at the bottom of all other pages:
- Fact-checked by 2 AIs: one AI (Claude) writes the page, a second AI (Codex) checks every fact against our sources, our fact register and all other pages. The writer fixes what the checker finds, and the checker checks again – until no wrong fact and no contradiction is left. Smaller notes, for example a fact that needs a second source, are worked off in our regular maintenance. If the two AIs still disagree after three rounds, Ralf decides for exactly that version. Then the line shows the date of the check. If a page has changed since, it says “AI fact-check in progress”.
- Checked on site by local guide: our local guide in Santa Fe checks the facts on the island – at the port, in town, on the road – and the line shows the date. Until then it says “Local guide check pending”.
How this site is built
The line at the bottom of every page sums this up. No badges or seals – just what is true, and how you can check it.
Free
Every page is free to read. There is no login, no paywall and nothing for sale. Should we ever add a booking link that pays us a commission, it will be clearly labelled, and the money goes only into this project.
No ads
We show no advertising and take no money from local businesses for a place in a list.
No tracking cookies
We count visits with Umami on our own server, without cookies and without storing IP addresses. Details are on our privacy page.
Open data
Live and map data come from open sources, and each one is credited where it is used:
- OpenStreetMap: the island map and the directory of places, © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License (copyright).
- PAGASA: typhoon wind signals for Cebu, read automatically from the official public alert feed.
- Open-Meteo: weather and tides, under CC BY 4.0 (licence).
Fact-checked by 2 AIs
The number in the bottom line counts the pages whose current version has passed the check described above under “How we check”.
Speed grade
Every night a script asks Google PageSpeed Insights to load each page in our sitemap as a mobile phone would. We turn Google’s performance score (0–100) into a grade:
| Grade | Score |
|---|---|
| A | 90–100 |
| B | 75–89 |
| C | 50–74 |
| D | below 50 |
The bottom line shows the grade of the page you are on and the date it was measured. On a computer, point at the grade to see the score, the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and the Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). We always show the grade, also when it is bad. Scores move a little from run to run, because network conditions change (how Lighthouse scores). A new page says “not measured yet” until its first night.
Why
Information about Bantayan is spread over many websites that contradict each other – especially ferry times. We want one honest place with sources and dates, so travellers don’t miss the last ferry or fall for a fake booking page.
Rules we follow
- Facts only with a source and a date.
- Never “official”. We are not the port, the shipping companies or the municipality.
- No guesses about whether ferries run. We link the official warnings.
- No paid listings, no ranking of businesses.
- AI images are labelled “AI illustration”. They illustrate a topic and are not photos of the named place.
