What happened
The magnitude 6.9 earthquake on the night of 30 September 2025 damaged the wharf at Hagnaya port in San Remigio, and parts of it now sit lower than before. When the tide is high, sea water covers the lower area.
On 28 March 2026 the Cebu Port Authority announced that it pauses loading during high tide, so that passengers do not have to walk through water. Ferries wait until the water drops. In April 2026 MARINA 7 announced passenger-flow controls and adjustable boarding platforms for high tide at Hagnaya.
What it means for you
| Before you travel | Why |
|---|---|
| Check today’s high tide | Shown live (modelled) on our home page |
| Plan one to two hours of buffer | Loading can stop for a while around high tide |
| Take an earlier ferry back | Especially if you have a flight from Cebu the same day |
| Follow official notices | Only the port and the Coast Guard decide when ferries sail |
Our tide times are a model estimate, not an official port notice.
Did you know?
- The fault line: PHIVOLCS traced the 2025 earthquake to the Bogo Bay Fault, offshore north-east of Bogo City in northern Cebu.
- Two high tides: the times of high tide change every day, so check the prediction for your travel date and confirm boarding with your shipping line.
- One crossing, two ports: Hagnaya on the Cebu mainland and Santa Fe on the island are about 17 km apart in a straight line; the ferry takes about one hour.
